This assignment assesses the following Learning Outcomes of this module:

1- Create and evaluate a scheme of learning that meets the needs of all learners in their specialist subject area;
2- Explain how curriculum and educational theory inform current practice; 
3- Explore how subject specialist teaching, learning and assessment strategies meet the needs of all learners;
4- Justify the use of a variety of assessment and feedback methods in meeting the expected learning outcomes and external requirements;
5- Carefully consider subject pedagogy in the planning and assessing of learning in their specialist subject.

HINTS

• In order to analyse the TL&A scheme you will find it really helpful to make detailed annotations on the scheme you are looking at over a number of weeks prior to writing this assignment.  This will give you lots of information about how the scheme is working in practice and identify its strengths and weaknesses. 
• Remember to always relate the assignment content to your practice – refer your reader to examples in your annotated scheme.  
• Relate your review of literature to your own TL&A scheme and learners throughout the assignment.  

Introduction: 
Outline in your own words what this essay is about.  Set the context: what is the course you are teaching and where are you teaching?  Who are your learners?   What are their needs?

Main Body: 
1a. Begin the main body of the assignment by describing and exploring the curriculum models that are evidenced in your teaching, learning and assessment scheme (for example, consider product/ process or linear/ spiral).   
Annotate your scheme to show examples of these models in your practice.  Then select and discuss at least 2 factors that influence the design of the scheme.  Again, annotate your scheme (if possible) to illustrate your discussion.

1b. Next, explain how well your chosen teaching, learning and assessment strategies (your subject pedagogy) enable learners to make progress within your specialist area. 
Here think about:
•    the scope of the TLA scheme and how topics are sequenced to allow your students to practise and remember new knowledge and skills.
•    How your scheme allows learners to integrate new knowledge into larger concepts/ideas.
•    How does the alignment support inclusive practice?
Annotate your TL&A scheme to show examples.  
Use sources which focus on teaching and learning in your specialist subject area.

1c. Evaluation 
Evaluate the strengths and limitations of the scheme in relation to providing a challenging and inclusive experience for learners in your specialist subject area.
Here should consider: 
•    Setting high expectations for learners
•    Ensuring and promoting an inclusive approach. 

1d. Recommendations 
Consider what changes you would recommend to develop the scheme further to ensure successful learning for every learner, and promote equality and manage diversity in the classroom. Make links here to the curriculum models you have discussed in the first section.  
Your recommendations should build on ideas discussed about curriculum alignment and strengths and limitations. (Remember your recommendations must come from your discussion.)   Provide examples of the improvements you would make referring to your current TL&A scheme.
