Here, we had fixed a lesson plan which was directed to know the experience of learning of children by designing the relevant activities. To observe the children, by involving them in various activities was the main objective of this plan. The activities will be based on their motor-sensory and cognitive ability. It would also see the perspectives of children based on their ontological understanding.
Description of Experience/Procedure:
Piaget says learning is not fixed instead it depends on the surroundings that get incorporated into behaviors (Huitt & Hummel, 2003). It further says, that infants borns with ‘reflexes’ (p1), use reflexes for adapting to the environment. McLeod, (2018) says, there are four stages of cognitive development of children-
1. Sensorimotor Stage
2. Preoperational Stage
3. Concrete operational Stage
4. Formal operational Stage
During the Sensorimotor Stage children under the age from 0-2 get the cognitive development and thinking, and motor skills and literacy. At the birth, children do not know about the permanence of the object, if thee see something, and instantly you hide the things, they think thing has been gone. But after few months around the age of 18 months they get to know that things exists whether he or she sees or not. Here cognitive development and thinking takes place (Huitt & Hummel, 2003 ; Howcast, 2020). As in this stage, chilrend starts learning from their experiences.
When children starts to manipulate with objects, started to balance their body such walking or running or crawling, they developed their motor skills where they get control of their muscles. And when they started playing with toys and explore their world, then it shows their motor literacy (Howcast, 2020).
Therefore, this lesson plan took the recourse of this theory under the domain of human development. Here it would take the first stage that is sensorimotor stage.
The design technology practically designs the education to get the learning. Therefore, activities take the help of this to design activates.
The Philosophy of Education corroborates the knowledge. It has been used to observe the learning of children which reflects the ontological experiences of the children and it will also use science to construct activities.
This lesson plan had included almost 5 activities.
- Throwing paper ball with catapult.
- Throwing arrow with bow.
- Making bow and catapult with the help of paper, rubber band, and stick.
- Making children walk on the plank without losing the control,
- Taking interview.
Pedagogical Practices (Teaching Strategies)
Educator’s role:
Educator has nothing to do here, educator had given them space, and freedom to them for doing things in their way. Only children were given instruction or they were told to make the bow and catapult with the help of given pieces of stuff, and before it, they were asked to throw the balls, and arrows with the help of catapult and bow respectively.
Educator was observing the cognitive and motor literacy skills of the children throughout the activities. If Educator felt to give some kind of scaffold then catered the help to the needy children.
Assessing their activities was the pedagogical role of the educator.
Open-ended Questions:
There were two questions for the children, that had included some cross questions i.e. why, how, etc.
- How do they know the catapult and bow?
- Could your ball fall at a longer distance? Or you could hit the target on the target board?
