Welcome to the health related project. For most of you, undertaking the Project will be the final stage your Masters programme. This may be daunting but hopefully an exciting prospect as you come to the end of your course of study.All of you have completed Masters level study before you embark on this module, you will therefore have an understanding of a range of research methods, and the principles of undertaking a review of previous research or a practice based project. The purpose of the Project is for you to apply and develop the knowledge gained throughout your course to your own project and of course your clinical practice.The project is widely regarded as a particularly effective means of developing your capacity for independent learning, research and practice development. Furthermore it provides you with an opportunity to investigate a particular problem, topic or issue in real depth. Your project should be a study related to an area of your professional interest, background or current role. Undertaking your project will provide you with the opportunity to fully interrogate an aspect of your practice into a detailed and rigorous way with the support of your peers and the academic team. The module is based on the philosophy of independent learning. You will also be supported by a group of your peers. Your learning will be guided by the module team you will also be allocated a named supervisor to act as your academic guide throughout the process of undertaking your project.Over the years we have had some fabulous projects that have been developed and published in academic and professional journals but most importantly, have the potential to make a real difference in the health care arena.

This module provides the opportunity to develop and implement a working project proposal related to your course outcomes and/or place of work, facilitated with learning materials and procedural guidance made available electronically. In addition, you will attend lectures and have access to supervision with a subject specialist or researcher in the field. You’ll be assessed through submission of two pieces of coursework in the form of a project preceded by a project proposal.This module provides you with an opportunity to integrate the skills and learning afforded by the Master programme. You will develop a proposal and have the opportunity to implement and analyse into a health related project. The emphasis will be on a project which meets your individual educational and professional developmental needs whilst having the potential for influencing your clinical practice. The work undertaken must demonstrate appropriate design, methods and techniques along with interpretation and evaluation of the findings reported to a high professional standard. Your project will be either a literature review using a systematic approach, empirical study, application project or practice/service audit or service evaluation. An element of the project undertaken will address the implications of wider dissemination of the work in terms of strengths, limitations and its relevance to the evidence based agenda within health care delivery.

Learning Strategy
A student centred approach utilising shared experiences, reflection and critical appraisal will be encouraged. Varying blended teaching and learning strategies will be utilised including lectures, group tutorials, group discussion and technology-assisted learning.
