Assessment Task 1 – Pharmacology Education Plan
Pharmacological therapeutics continue to play a pivotal role in the delivery and maintenance of health and
wellbeing in contemporary society. Effective healthcare requires the process of optimising the Quality
Use

of Medicines (QUM). This assignment helps to ensure safe medication administration by understanding safe medication pharmaceutical therapeutics by following the Australian Standards, in particular, Medication Safety Standard and Partnering with Consumers Standards in the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards as well as Aged Care Quality Standards. Registered nurses have an important role to play in the healthcare team to ensure the safe and reliable compliance of drugs. To do this, they must not only have a comprehensive knowledge of the actions and effects of pharmacological agents being prescribed and administered to patients by other health professionals, but they also need to aware of potential problems that may arise in relation to a patient’s drug regime. They, therefore, become an integral conduit between other health professionals and the patient by providing multifaceted advice and feedback to the entire healthcare team.

Purpose:
The purpose of this learning task is to provide students with an opportunity to apply their developing Clinical Decision-Making skills to an allocated patient scenario. The task is designed to allow you to focus upon all therapeutic aspects relating to that patients care. It will therefore encourage the development of knowledge and skills of fundamental pharmacological principles and aspects of patient care in order to educate and inform a professional audience and deliver pertinent patient education.

Part A: Individual Video Presentation

Part 1A will be an individual assessment task. You are required to video record yourself providing relevant education to this patient about his/her specific medication regime in order to provide quality patient  care,
remembering to consider the patient’s levels of health literacy. Although this is an individual assignment, you will need to ensure you have been allocated into a group (with a max of 4 students in each group) within Moodle. Each group will have four drugs allocated, out of which you will need to choose ONE drug each and prevent overlap of drugs within the group. As an individual, you will be required to consider the patient as a whole, in preparation for an educative interview related to the chosen drug. This video recording should not be more than 5 minutes, hence it is important to prioritise pertinent and essential information to ensure the medication regime is understood and followed by the patient. Video clips longer than 5 mins and 30 secs will not be considered and you will only receive marks for the maximum allocated time. Each student will need to submit the reference list of 8 appropriate references along with the video clip.

You will need to submit your video recording, through Kaltura (please see the instructions on Moodle to use Kaltura), and reference list to Moodle (Assessment Task 1A) by the set due date/time
