IntroductionDefinition of a pathfinderAccording to The Dictionary for Library & Information Science, a pathfinder is a “subject bibliography designed to lead the user through the process of researching a specific topic, or any topic in a given field or discipline, usually in a systematic, step-by-step way, making use of the best finding tools the library has to offer” (Meitz,1994) . Pathfinders may be printed or available online. In addition a pathfinder is a collection of resources related to a topic. Valenza (2010) stated that a pathfinder can “lead you through the information jungle”. Pathfinders provide a starting point for research. The goal of a pathfinder is to gather all of the most useful, relevant, reliable and authoritative resources on a variety of academic, work-related or general-interest topics. Pathfinders have evolved with the emergence of the World Wide Web and may now act as portals to information about resources in variety of formats, including books, encyclopedias, bibliographic databases, almanacs, documentaries, websites, search engines and journalsPurpose of the pathfinder The purpose of this pathfinder is to provide support for users seeking to acquire information on bullying in schools and workplaces in a most useful, relevant and reliable way using the resources provided by print and online. A second common element in bullying behavior is a perceived imbalance of power, which allows one individual, or group, to victimize another. Shahria et al. (2015) reported that bullying is deemed as a serious problem in academic settings in all parts of the world. They found that bullying has negative impact on academic performance. Females were more affected than males by bullying.

School bullying may occur in any area of a school in or around the school building although it more often occurs in Physical education, recess, hallways, bathrooms, on school buses and waiting for buses, and in classes that require group work and/or after school activities. Bullying in school may consist of a group of students taking advantage of, or isolating, one student and gaining the loyalty of bystanders who want to avoid becoming the next victim. These bullies will taunt and tease their target before physically bullying them. Targets of bullying in school are often pupils who are considered different by their peers to begin with.Unlike the more physical form of schoolyard bullying, workplace bullying often takes place within the established rules and policies of the organization and society. Such actions are not necessarily illegal and may not even be against the firm’s regulations; however, the damage to the targeted employee and to workplace morale is obvious. C. Brodsky (1976) indicated that adults who bully have personalities that are authoritarian, combined with a strong need to control or dominate. Blake Ashforth (1994) suggested that a prejudicial view of subordinates can be a risk factor. While envy and resentment may be motives for bullying, there is little evidence to suggest that bullies suffer from any deficit in self esteem.
Stan Davis (2007) suggested specific strategies that can be employed to reduce bullying include: Make adults aware of the situation and involve them, Make it clear that bullying is never acceptable, Increase adult supervision in the yard, halls, and washrooms, Emphasize caring, respect, and safety, Emphasize consequences of hurting others, Enforce consistent and immediate consequences for aggressive behaviors, Follow up on all instances of aggression, Improve communication among school administrators, teachers, parents and students, Have a problem/suggestion box for reports of problems and concerns, and suggestions, Help bullies with anger control and the development of empathy, Encourage positive peer relations.Intended AudienceThis pathfinder is intended for adolescents as well as older students at the tertiary level and to even older adults who are not knowledgeable about bullying, personality factors that contribute to bullying and the various types of bullying and strategies and resources used to prevent bullying.
